USY & Lion's Club Recycle for Sight
MKT USYer Sarah Pyzer has always believed that we should all be ready and willing to build a better world and uses the experiences she has learned at home, in Midbar's Religious School and from USY to take action when she can. She recently headed up a project for MKT USY by collecting gently used eye glasses and cases for the Lions Club. With help from the congregation, friends and Boulder City businesses Sarah helped fill bags and boxes to donate to the Lion's Club Recycle For Sight Program which provides eyeglasses for people with sight problems who cannot afford corrective lenses. She has shared information on how to set up a collection site in schools and in places of work and asks that those interested go to lionsclub.org for more information on the project.
As a member of the 2020-2021 B'nei Mitzvah class Sarah became a member of the David L. Simon Foundation's Junior Board. Together, with her peers, she helped select two projects to fund with money awarded to the class for a Tikkun Olam project of their choice. The group selected the "Amazon Conservation Team (ACT)" and "United Cerebral Palsy (UCP)" as their group projects. Sarah feels that Tikkum Olam is important.
For her own Mitzvah Project she had hoped to spend time with the animals at the Boulder City Animal Shelter, but she was studying for her Bat Mitzvah during the pandemic. She decided to raise money to purchase items needed at the shelter, or to accept donations of those products.
She said "that we all have a responsibility to help our community and our planet. By doing small things, we can make big change." Sarah knows that one person can make a difference and encourages others to do the same.
