Pesukei D’Zimra – The Verses of Song and Praise- Summer Sermon Series Part 2
Many of us are unaware of it, but a whole section of the worship service takes place before the Shacharit, or morning service begins. Many of us arrive at synagogue just as this service finishes, or later…. It is called the Pesukei D’zimra or Verses of Songs and Praise.
This Shabbat, as part of my summer sermon series I will go into detail about this mysterious service and why I think that in many ways it is equal in importance to the Shacharit or morning service.
We will discuss the structure and meaning of the texts used. We will learn when and how it was added to the daily prayer service. After this lesson, we will hopefully motivate ourselves to want to be there every Shabbat at 9:00 AM when this service begins.
Shabbat Shalom.
