Many years ago, of blessed memory, Jocelyn Solomon and her family brought a wonderful program called Family Promise to our attention. It started a wonderful relationship with an incredible organization. In its first iteration with us, we served as hosts for unhoused families. We would invite the families into our facility for two weeks a year, give them a place to sleep, and serve them dinner and breakfast. Covid stopped this version of the program, and Family Promise was able to pivot and find new ways of helping families. Post-COVID, Family Promise began the Just Neighbors program to allow approved Las Vegas faith-based organizations to “adopt” an incoming Family Promise family. Midbar Kodesh has recently been introduced to their current family, a father and his four children (2 girls, ages 15 & 10, and 2 boys, ages 8 and 4). They attend a local charter school and are in temporary housing through Family Promise. Our committee, Becky Lewis, April Horwitz, and Randi Lampert, will be assisting this family over the next 2 months as they get back on their feet and secure permanent housing. To help aid this family and future families, we will be stocking a pantry with the most needed items so we can help them with immediate needs when they enter the program. We would love your help and ask that you shop our Amazon Wishlist. It is easy to do, and everything will get shipped directly to MKT. We will update you all each month with our family’s progress. Feel free to contact Becky at Beckynlewis@gmail.com for further details or to discuss ways to volunteer or donate to help with Family Promise.
