Mazel tov! Max Hadley Wood, son to Midbar Kodesh Temple members Shira and Adam Wood
Max Hadley Wood, son to Midbar Kodesh Temple members Shira and Adam Wood, will celebrate his bar mitzvah with his family and friends, and entire community via Zoom on Saturday, April 18 at 9:00 a.m. His sister, Kate, and grandparents Judie and Neal Lewis (Henderson) and Sarah and Peter Wood (Australia) will be joined by others logging in on Zoom from Nevada, Arizona, California, Colorado, Minnesota, New Jersey, Virginia, England and Australia. The Lewis' are long time members of Midbar Kodesh Temple, and we have recently "met" Sarah and Peter in the Zoom Room playing trivia with MKT families!
Max is in 7th grade at a local middle school. He is in accelerated math, English and science classes with history being his favorite class. He’s not a ‘pro’ gamer but loves playing with his friends on Xbox. This is Max’s second year as part of the Wranglers Lacrosse team, he enjoys the outdoors, and likes to snowboard.
Max is part of USY and has been to Camp Alonim the last two summers and will attend again this
summer. As a B'nei Mitzvah student, Max is participating in a group Tikkun Olam Project, where the teens will select projects together. They will use a $1,000.00 contribution from the David L. Simon Foundation to fund the projects they select together as members of the Simon Foundation Junior Board. His Mitzvah project is on hold for the moment, but he said that when "we are out and about" he will help raise funds and collect items for Second Chance (www.secondchancelv.org), a dog rescue which helps provide opportunities for people to adopt or foster dogs. The non-profit also offers many volunteer opportunities. Max looks forward to reconnecting with the animal rescue organization soon and letting the congregation know more about this special project.
Max is not sure yet where he would like to go to college, but since he is well traveled he has many cities to choose from. He has enjoyed the opportunities to visit New York City, Washington DC, Chicago, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. He also spends a lot of time visiting San Diego and Brian Head, Utah. He has been lucky enough to go to Australia a few times, but his favorite place he has visited is the Cook Islands. He thinks he may enjoy owning his own business and would be a business major in the school that he selects.
Max said getting ready for a Bar Mitzvah is hard, but he is happy he’s doing it. Max is one of many students all over the world who had to make an adjustment to his Bar Mitzvah celebration, sharing the service world wide with his own family and friends via Zoom. He said that he is a little disappointed he can’t celebrate in person with his family and friends, but said of the challenge, that "it’s all good."
