Jacob Cherry to be called to the Torah as a bar mitzvah; mazel tov to the Cherry and Schwartz famili
Jacob Martin Cherry, son of Midbar Kodesh Temple members Mindi and Mark Cherry, will be called to the Torah at Midbar Kodesh Temple in December. Jacob is the grandson of Chuck and Susan Schwartz; BarbaraSue Barnes, and Lewis Barnes, of blessed memory; and Roslayn Cherry, and Sherwin Cherry, of blessed memory. He will be joined by family and friends from Nevada and as far away as Israel, Illinois, Tennessee, California and Arizona.
Jacob, a National Junior Honor Society student in the 7th grade at a local middle school, enjoys math and science. He received the G.R.I.T. award for his Growth, Resilience, Initiative and Tenacity. In his free time he volunteers at his former elementary school. Jacob likes to spend time playing video games with his friends. He would like to attend UCLA and eventually medical school.
Jacob has attended Camp Alonim for four summers. In May 2020 he will be taking his third trip to Israel to celebrate the Bat Mitzvah of a very good friend. Jacob is an active MKT USYer and, as a B'nei Mitzvah student, was recently named as a Junior Board Member of the David L. Simon Foundation. In that capacity he will work with other students to select a Social Action/Tikkun Olam project and present a $1000.00 DLSF check to that organization. Jacob says that Tikkun Olam makes him feel "really good" when he does "good deeds and helps others," something he says he really loves to do. For his mitzvah project, Jacob is collecting toys and school supplies to give to JFSA so that they may give them out during the holidays to children in need. There are two bins located at Midbar Kodesh Temple for those who wish to participate.
Jacob says that he "loves my family and am excited about all the family coming to town to help celebrate my Bar Mitzvah with me."
