Mazel Tov Rachel and the Fleischer family!

Rachel Sonia Fleischer, daughter of Midbar Kodesh Temple members Magda and Dan Fleischer, graduated from The Pennsylvania State University, cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and a Bachelor of Music degree in Flute Performance. While at Penn State, Rachel was a member of the Schreyer Honors College, Presidential Leadership Academy, and many musical ensembles. In the spring of 2017, Rachel studied abroad in Buenos Aires Argentina where she studied Spanish, International Politics, and was chosen to present and publish her research on democratic consolidation.

Throughout her undergraduate career, she interned in both the District and Washington D.C. Offices of Congresswoman Dina Titus, worked as a research assistant for Dr. Michael Nelson of the Political Science Department, and was a Teaching Assistant for the Sociology Department. She has been awarded many accolades such as winner of the Undergraduate Research Exhibition for her flute performance, winner of the National Collegiate Flute Choir Competition, and chosen as the recipient of the Bruce R. Miller and Dean D. LaVigne Endowed Scholarship in Political Science. This past spring, Rachel was selected to present her thesis— a quantitive analysis on the political factors affecting the passage of immigration legislation — at the Undergraduate Research Exhibition where it was awarded third place for the best research conducted in the social sciences category. Post graduation, Rachel will be attending The George Washington University Law School with plans of pursuing a career in public interest law.
