Rick Recht, the most celebrated Jewish artist of our time, returns to MKT for a weekend-in-residence
Rick Recht will return to Midbar Kodesh Temple in concert on Sunday, January 22 at 4 p.m. In his last visit there was standing room only in Midbar's sanctuary, as ruach filled the room with music and song. Advanced tickets for the concert, which are free to children under 12 and $15 for MKT and PJ Library members, are available on line at midbarkodesh.org or by calling the synagogue at 702.454.4848. Tickets for general public are $20 and can also be purchased on line or at the door for $25.
Rick Recht is one of the most celebrated Jewish artists of our time playing Shabbat Alive! services and family, religious school, teen, camp, and tot concerts throughout the United States and abroad. Recht is widely recognized as a pioneer of the Jewish rock music genre, elevating the medium of Jewish music as a powerful and effective tool for developing Jewish pride and identity. In addition to his role as an artist, Recht is regarded as a top Jewish educator and song leader in the Jewish world.
Recht's Las Vegas artist residency weekend begins with a Tot Shabbat at 5:30 p.m. followed by a "Viva Las Shabbos!" 6:15 p.m. service for the congregation and community at Midbar Kodesh Temple. Recht will participate in services and kiddish luncheon on Saturday morning, January 21 at the synagogue. Saturday evening finds Midbar's Club Kehillah and PJ Library at a Pajama Havdalah at 6:30 p.m. Sunday will be another busy day for Recht and his band as he does a Religious School/Preschool Teacher In-Service at 1 p.m. at the Jewish Community Center which is followed by the 4 p.m. concert at Midbar Kodesh Temple.
“The stage is definitely my home,” says Recht. “The energy and voices of the audiences, whether they’re little kids, teens or adults, are indescribable. That’s the magic of Jewish music - the interaction, the singing, the dancing, and the powerful community connection. For me, it’s a dream come true to create and share in these powerful experiences.”
Recht is the national music spokesman for PJ Library. He makes his synagogue home at United Hebrew Congregation in St Louis, MO where he serves as Artist-in-Residence. Recht is known for regularly featuring local musicians, choirs, and vocal soloists on stage during his concerts and religious services. He is also the founder and executive director of Jewish Rock Radio (JRR), the first high-caliber, 24/7, Jewish rock Internet radio station found at jewishrockradio.com and iPhone and Android apps. JRR broadcasts contemporary Jewish rock music, interviews with Jewish celebrities, and interviews featuring youth from communities around the world speaking about exciting experiences they have had engaging in Jewish life.
