An Unlikely Friendship; An Interfaith Dialogue.
As some of you may remember, I participated in an interfaith trip to Israel in January of 2014. A couple of rabbis, a cantor and the CEO of the Jewish Federation of Las Vegas joined over 20 pastors from the Las Vegas on a mission to Israel.
Over the course of the trip I developed friendships with several of the pastors. The trip helped break down some of the misconceptions and barriers from which clergy of different faiths often suffer. Upon our return I had a desire to find a way to build on those friendships. Together with Rabbi Goodman from Temple Beth Sholom, we engaged two of the pastors in a commitment to meet monthly to study Bible together. Over the last two years we have been meeting regularly to study a chapter of Torah and a chapter of the New Testament.
These meetings have come to be one of the highlights of my career as a rabbi. It has allowed me to see the beauty and spirituality of Christianity. Ironically, it has deepened my passion and commitment to Judaism. We have created a space where we feel comfortable learning about and challenging, our deepest convictions and beliefs.
